Training together, sharing challenges, and celebrating every finish line. This month we’re chatting with Triatlón Tetuán, a club where sport goes hand in hand with friendship and good vibes. 🏊🚴🏃
Firstly, can you tell us a bit about the club?
The club was founded in 2016. We started out with just a handful of people and now we’re a well-established club in Madrid, Spain, with around 90 members. What’s really special is that the club has grown into a big family: we love swimming, cycling, running, and competing, but we think it's just as important that we have fun together, cheering each other on, and keeping each other motivated.

What do you think is the best part about triathlon as a sport? Do you have to practice all three disciplines?
What we love is the variety, not just triathlon itself but also the other multisport variations, like duathlon and aquathlon. Training for three sports is a constant challenge that keeps us on our toes. And no, you don’t have to do all three sports: if you don’t like swimming, you can go for duathlons; if you prefer the mountains, you can try cross triathlons. There’s something for everyone!
What are the benefits of training in a club instead of on your own?
Training in a group changes everything. It’s way more fun, it pushes you to give that little extra you might not on your own, and you learn loads from the coaches and more experienced teammates. At the end of the day, it’s not just about training; it's about having a good time and even suffering together!… and that’s what makes it so addictive.
How do you balance triathlon with work, studies, or personal life?

The key is good organisation. Knowing when you’ll carve out time to train and making the most of the club’s sessions, which are planned to fit around everyday routines. It also helps to see triathlon not as another chore, but as a breather: training is the perfect way to switch off from work or studying and recharge your batteries.
What has been the most special race or moment you’ve shared together so far?
We love racing outside of Madrid and turning it into a weekend trip. It’s a chance to spend time together, get to know each other better, and build that strong team spirit. Our most recent adventure was at the Epic Triathlon in Oropesa, Spain, with distances for all levels across two days. It was amazing cheering each other on and experiencing it all as one team!
What do you think makes Triatlón Tetuán unique compared to other clubs?
The atmosphere. Triatlón Tetuán is more than a club, it's a family. The vibe is relaxed, like a community, and there’s always someone ready to support you and celebrate your wins. Over time, training and racing together turns teammates into really good friends.

What advice would you give someone who’s thinking about starting triathlon?
Just go for it; give it a try without fear. You don’t need all the gear right away, you can start with what you have, and even borrow a bike for your first races. The important thing is to enjoy it, set small goals, and let yourself be carried along by the atmosphere. With time, you’ll gain experience and kit up. And most importantly, remember that everyone starts from zero at some point, the hardest part is taking that first step.
